Objective: You're a witty soldier, close to the Duke, and just back from the wars. A furlough is planned, but unfortunately it's at the Messina house of Leonato, the governor, whose neice, Beatrice, is an ex-girlfriend of yours. You and your ex go to it like das of old, arguing and sparring, until a trick is played by your 'friends' to convince each of you that the other is madly in love with them. Accusations, a faked death, and a masked marriage prevent this play from spilling over into unbearable whimsy, but the battles of Beatrice and Benedick are the things of legend.
