Objective: This accolade recognizes the eight wonderful Gothic horror films made by American International Pictures between 1960 and 1964, collectively known as the "Poe cycle". These films were very loosely based on the writings of Edgar Allan Poe (except for "The Haunted Palace", which was actually adapted from a work by H. P. Lovecraft). All were directed by the ingenious Roger Corman and starred the great Vincent Price in the lead role (save for "The Premature Burial", which starred the sometimes great Ray Milland). The scripts were written by "Twilight Zone" veterans, Richard Matheson and/or Charles Beaumont (except for "The Tomb of Ligeia", which was written by legendary New Hollywood scenarist and director, Robert Towne; "The Haunted Palace" likewise featured script contributions from a young Francis Ford Coppola).
