"1500+ reviews. 1 joke."

UPDATE: Over 5000 11,000 17,000 22,500 33,500
have played the Four Word Film Review Game
since being posted on Jul 16/09!
Reviews mostly favourable: Average rating: 4/5.

Anyone else here try this site? It's a set of timed fill-in-the-blank quizzes on everything from the complete list of element (in latin) to Susan Sarandon films.

Warning: Be prepared to spend hours there, once you've started.

I thought it might not be a bad idea to submit a FWFR-themed game. The idea would be that you'd be given review and perhaps year of the film, and have to guess the movie title. (To start, the top clean vote-getting reviews from each of the past 30 years with a 10-minute limit.)

It would get some nice publicity for the site too, since popular new quizzes can get 1,000s of players on the first day.

The AFI Lifetime Acheivement quiz just posted today, for example, already has been played over 9,000 times.

Here's the list I'm thinking of submitting. In most cases they are the top vote getting review of any film of that year. Exception where for potentially offensive language or really obscure films (e.g. Leprechaun 4: In Space, or John Wayne Bobbitt Uncut.)

How many can you identify?

Year Review
2008 Fe male.
2007 Vill'n Grace
2006 Something About Mary Magdalene
2005 The Emperors Hike Back
2004 "Gory. Gory. Hallelujah."
2003 Three. Ring. Serkis.
2002 Schindler's Lizst
2001 High-sea dead people.
2000 Convicts with a record.
1999 Tents. Intense. In tents.
1998 Brother gets own bedroom
1997 Icy dead people.
1996 Drew first blood.
1995 Bride's head, revisited.
1994 Run and Stumpy
1993 Who's Eating? Gilbert's mon.
1992 Crossed, un-crossed, HELLO, crossed.
1991 Said he'd be back.
1990 Sheeeeeeears Johnny!
1989 Fate: verse, then death.
1988 Con autist.
1987 Copper is metal.
1986 Damsel in dissed dress.
1985 A comedy of eras.
1984 "Finding Nimoy."
1983 Your father, he is.
1982 Hoff-man, hoff-woman
1981 Ford. Explorer.
1980 A Merrick Unbeauty.
1979 "I bet Kramer wins."
1978 "The Great S cape."
1977 Vader downs a Guinness.

This sounds a great idea! And, of course, I hate you for making me spend the past 1 hours trying out FAR TOO MANY of the quizzes.

I was afraid of this. No one's replying because they all been hooked!

No guarantee it would be published, but if it were, I'd estimate 5,000 new people would be exposed to FWFR, and maybe 10-25 would become regular vistors/contributors.

I've tried that a little bit on Twitter. John Cusack liked my rejected Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil review.

LOL! My twitter account is the same name I use here minus the first E - just a hart, not a heart. The review was "Beguiled directs the Bemused", which I keep in my reject pile because, personally, I like it. Cusack always seems to be playing bemused to me. I follow John Cusack on there, along with several actor/celebrities. One even follows me.

Well, I'm famous because now I'm following you, right? And how do you know that its the REAL John Cusack?

(If anyone else wants to follow me, I'm ChocolateLady57 there.)

I'm not famous, but you certainly can be. I don't know personally, but um... Alyssa Milano said he was...

Actually, mostly based on his political commentary that sometimes refers to his Huffington Post blog, his promotion of the upcoming and totally absurd sounding Hot Tub Time Machine (constant recent references to Rob Corddry in a Speedo and a series of photos uploaded from the set) which he said is wrapping tonight, and that he tweets with Alyssa Milano, who is very direct about reporting imposters when she sees them. I dunno, on faith, I guess.

Thanks a lot RockG01f, I've wasted HOURS!! It's addictive! One good thing to come out of it though is that I can now name all 50 US states!

The FWFR-themed quiz is a cool idea.

Couple of typos though:

1999 Tents. Intense. In tents.
1993 Who's Eating? Gilbert's mon.

Hey! Everyone, looks like it's happening! They've sent me a link to the mock-up:
http://www.sporcle.com/games/4wordmoviereviews.php

They've included a link to the site!

And thanks, [matt], I've let them know about the typos. Also, I've asked them to change the film for 2001, since Pirates of the Caribbean is from '03.

Hopefully not villain. What if we get 100's of new contributors instead of dozens?

Here's some of the early reviews:
quote:

"Brother gets own bedroom." - Ouch.

Interesting quiz idea. Must say, however, that the clues from the earlier movies are considerably easier than the later movies.

I think this is a brilliant quiz. More creative movie quizzes like this please!

Bride's head revisted is just downright cold. I love it.

Great quiz which definitely requires some thought, but there are some seriously questionable clues.

Quite possibly the best sporcle EVER - Love it!

So far the most guessed correctly are Vader downs a Guinness (over 80%), I bet Kramer wins, The Great S Cape, and Said he'd be back (all with over 50%). The toughest are Brother gets own bedroom, The Emperors hike back(!), and Vill'n Grace(!!) each with less than 5%.

We're linked in from the front page at http://www.sporcle.com/ so please add a comment about how great the site is and what a wonderful person Benj is. You know, the usual bullshit.

Well, I didn't do too badly, considering I couldn't remember the names of the particular LoTR, Star Trek and Star Wars movies. Wouldn't take my answer when I typed in The Passion of the Christ for some reason (another anti-Semitic conspiracy, I'm sure).

But it was fun!
