There is definitely one nationality that is most often treated as stereotypically swearing a lot.
That is rubbish. Do you think that's true in the U.S.? In India? In Fiji? Some of the foulest speaking people I've ever met were Philippine! The statement may be an accurate representation of sentiment in England (and, then again, it may not), but it is not accurate around the world.

And last time I checked, EVERYBODY swears a lot, so I can't fathom what ... fascist, jingoistic stereotype I'm supposed to be keying in on here.
O.K., so racist stereotype wasn't the key, but fascist, jingoistic or even chauvinistic stereotypes seem to have been in play.
Sal, that statement was both short-sighted and -- now that it's explained -- offensive, and it is no defense to say "hey, man, I'm just pointing out that stereotypes exist," or to point to like-minded persons as a source of universal validation. That's bullshit. Depictions of damned-near EVERY nationality -- when focused on lower socio-economic strata -- often involve foul-mouthed elocution, so I kindly disagree with the general proposition at the outset. That's what renders a game like this inaccessible when put into play.
If I say "this race is definitely known to be the laziest, most shiftless in the world," I can think of at least several different answers I might get were I to ask it in Texas, Alabama, California and Hawaii -- and that's within the same damned country! The individual answers don't obtain universality of vision just because fellow Texans, Alabamans (?), Californians and Hawaiians might share the same view.
Like Whippy said, let's just keep the clues short and simple. "Colored Lassohandler" might describe Calvin Lockhart in "Blazing Saddles," but would anyone get it if I don't start explaining? (Especially since it was Clevon Little who was in "Blazing Saddles," but hey: they're all known to look alike.)
But I'm not picking a fight. Peace, man.

You forgot "colonial", as i sit here in this remote outpost of the british empire drinking scotch while one manservant washes my feet and another doubles as a table for my glass
Not sure I've fully got the hang of this game, but let's give it a shot:

Um, yes, of course I realise that. But do you think Father Jack is supposed to be a totally random character, or do you think he might be playing on a stereotype?
quote: I fucking swear all the cocksucking time and so do many of my best fucking friends and none of us is mothercunting Irish.
You are an individual, not a whole national stereotype, so that has got nothing to do with it.
quote: If someone had tried to collectivize persons of non-heterosexual gender or melanin-rich skin tone, would that be stereotyping and/or an indication of predjudice.
Yes, of course it would be those things. But mentioning a stereotype as being a stereotype is not the same as as just using one as if it were true.
quote: As for fun - seems to me these petty dancing-on-the-head-of-a-pin alleyway on certain threads tend to kill the inherent fun of this site. Wherefore? Perchance to turn spotlights on those who are needy of attention? Who are needy of 'winning'?
I do hope that you are addressing all this to napper, who is the one who started saying what was and wasn't fun. Do you think that people should say only what you want them to? Which leads me to...
quote: Who are needy of having the last word. I dare you not to reply.
You (and another F.W.F.R.er) are very fond of saying this sort of thing. You want to have the last word and thus you announce that others want to have the last word in order that you do. Last time I let you, even though I had a particular thing to say. If I don't mind you or anyone responding to me, but you do mind me responding to you, who is the one with the issues over wanting the last word? If I have a response, I'll repond. If I don't, I won't. I won't not respond just because you try to bully me into it. |

*Buzz* Oh I'm so sorry, wrong answer.
I believe the answer we were looking for was Elizabeth Shue, yes Elizabeth Shue (Leaving Las Vegas).
Enterprising Burlesquer.

Sublime. Simply sublime.
And now, back to our game:
*Buzz* Oh, so very close, as the correct answer also has vowels and consonants in it.
We are looking for a particular person -- a particular person -- and the clue again: Enterprising Burlesquer.
Anyone? |

I dunno, but Ellen Barkin fits. Did she ever play a dancer?!
OK, it's probably not her, but I do like thinking about her.

In High School, I dated a girl who looked just like Ellen Barkin (yes, the young version), and I didn't mind thinking about her at all.
Nope! Try again. |
