Let's maintain a thread for suggestions as to improving functionality (i.e. not approvability of reviews or programming glitches). |

Presentation of reviews
The rejected reviews page really needs to include the number of passes a review has had. At present, that only appears on the pending page, which is too late. If one cannot remember (very plausible with some of the wait times), one has to resubmit before knowing whether one is allowed to have done so!
It's reasonable for anti-chronological to be the chronological default*, but it makes no sense for anti-alphabetical to be the alphabetical default. (*However, personally I would prefer actual chronological to come first.) This applies to both reviewers' names on films' pages and films' names on reviewers' pages.
I don't really like having to scroll down to the bottom of the first page of reviews just to get to a different page. It makes sense for the selection bar to be at the bottom (for when one has finished that page if one is going through all the reviews), but couldn't it be at the top too?
On a related note, though, couldn't we change our default settings so that we don't have to start with 100 reviews each time? I'd rather set mine to 1,000, covering all films and a lot of reviewers. The reason is that when checking/searching for a particular review, one has to manually change the number in the U.R.L. each time. In contrast, there may be people on slow connections who would rather have fewer reviews per page.
From a film's page, I'd like to be able to view 'My pending reviews for this film'. A secondary option would be able to sort one's pending reviews by different parameters, e.g. as well as date submitted, film name and anything else that might be useful (e.g. number of passes). |

Accolades
Since starting to chase my first accolade, I have found that I would be much more interested in getting lists of films for which I have reviews approved or pending/films for which I have neither, as opposed to the available lists of films for which I have reviews approved/films for which I don't have reviews approved. N.B. I mean per accolade, not a huge combined list of all films reviewed or with reviews pending! It would be too clumsy to have these lists plus the current ones, so I would suggest having options called 'Films reviewed by me' (or whatever the current wording is), 'Films with pending reviews by me' and 'Films to be reviewed' (this is the important one). The latter wording I would say successfully implies that other films have had reviews submitted, be they approved or still pending; the assumption with accolades is that people want to achieve them, so it would be all right to word it as though a reviewer were going to review all as yet unreviewed films.
I'd like to be able to select which incomplete accolades are included in my 'to do' list. I've had the same very small ones at the top for years.
I'd suggest making accolades one of the 'My fwfr' options, with the standard tick boxes for removing entries in the list. You'd need to have a 'Reset' button, though, so that people could change their minds (accolades being a longer term thing than which reviews happen to have been approved recently). In fact, I'd suggest incorporating all the accolades bits and pieces together in one place, i.e. ones to do, ones achieved and ones created. People have often wanted to see others' lists of created accolades, hence Josh's thread. Even with that, we cannot see a page of even our own created accolades' trophies.
A smaller accolade point is that I would suggest getting rid of the 'Achievers' buttons in one's created accolades list. One can see the achievers by just going into the accolade. There is no need to have separate access to them.
On a related note, it might be interesting to have access to which users are closest to completing an accolade, so below the achievers there could be Randall 16/17, ChocolateLady 14/17,... Salopian 1/17 or whatever. The main purpose of this would be in the many accolades where there are no actual achievers.
It's too easy to accidentally delete an accolade, as the buttons are close together. I'm not sure whether I have ever actually done so, but I'd suggest a check of 'Are you sure you want to delete this accolade?' or changing the way they are deleted.
One should be able to search for accolades via key words. Often one remembers an accolade but cannot think of example films in it, which is the main way of finding specific accolades now.
Personally, I preferred when all/more stages of creating an accolade were on one page. If one just wants to edit one small thing, it is a bit of a faff having to pass through all four pages, especially as one has to scroll to the bottom of each page to get to the 'Next' button.
I think however one ends up in one's own accolade, one should be able to edit it from there, rather than having to go to the accolades list and click on the 'Edit' button.
When viewing an accolade trophy, one should be able to read the full title in a larger font size by hovering over it.
When a film's title gets changed, it doesn't seem to get auto-added to any relevant accolades. Conversely, films do seem to stay in accolades based on their original title. The same may well also apply to cast lists.
When creating/editing an accolade, it would be better if it did not use pop-ups (or whatever the small search windows are). The computer I am using at the time of writing is not allowing them and so I cannot edit an accolade.
If one spends too long on any page of the creation process (e.g. weighing up which films to include), the system abandons the accolade and takes one into a new blank one. It would obviously be better if that were not the case. |

Manoeuvring round the site
When one wants to go back after voting on a page, one has to click back the number of times one has voted (or get back via links). It would be better if votes did not count as separate pages forward.
It's a hassle that when one logs in, it takes one to 'My fwfr' (or wherever one has set in one's preferences). It should keep one on whatever page one is already on. Then, when people post links using other domains, one would be able to vote straight away rather than have to get back to the page first. |

On the Accolade list I'd like it if I could see further down the list of accolades to complete, or somehow change the list beyond having to achieve the accolades available to me one at a time.
Alternatively, at one stage about a year ago (?) the list was altered to the smallest number of films required to complete an accolade - while that wasn't ideal as I sorely missed the old list it would be great if we could somehow toggle to that list so we could see other options. |

Hmm... some of these are pretty straightforward and I'll try and get on them this weekend, others will require a serious sit down and think.
Cheers for the suggestions and keep them coming |

I bet you're starting to regret saying that now. I've been meaning to start this thread for quite a while. |

Yep I'm sure I will It's good to have all this in one place but I can't promise how much of it I'll have the time for at present. |

That's fine. I just wanted it all written down in one place too. Any improvements that you have time for will be appreciated. |

Searching
When searching for a film (etc.), it would be helpful if it also returned results with accented forms of letters. Ideally, and and & would be interchangeable in searches, but this might be a problem with and appearing in other words and & being part of the code for unusual characters.
It would be useful to be able to search for exact strings of words sometimes, rather than getting all the titles with each of those words in any position.
Films with the same name would preferably be listed by year rather than the order in which they were added to the site. (This applies to both searches and accolades.)
If one 'searches' for an I.M.D.B. link, it would be a help if one could be informed if the film is already here. Ideally, one would be directed straight to its page. |

I'd love a visible countdown to the 20 submissions limit. Every week, I only find out I've hit it by submitting one too many. |
