Something I am sub-editing claims this. Is it true overall, or would it only be most indoor scenes, or would it only be near Wellington?

Thanks.

From what I remember of it, I'm not sure Wellington has the scenery for the majority of the external shots. Then again, if it was largely effects in a studio...

One for Sean perhaps. Or anyone obsessed with LOTR trivia, I guess.

Hmmm, you're going to get stuck on the word "most". I've watched the 20+ hour documentary (or series of documentaries) on the Extended Cut edition, and it's clear from that that all the scenes that obviously look like they were outside were filmed all over the country, e.g., Rohan, Shire etc.

But, the studio is in Wellington and virtually all inside scenes were shot there. Some apparently 'outside' scenes (such as Fangorn Forest and the Misty Mountains) were also done in the studio.

Thanks. I'll add 'indoor' or 'studio' to the wording.

I had suspected it might be wrong. It is a set of 1,000 trivia questions and there is a stupid error of some kind in almost every question.
