London was notorious for its vicious fogs which were called peasoupers. Used for atmosphere in many b&w films. Dangerous, but at least you could see they were there, unlike today's air pollution. (nope - couldn't risk ignoring a political opportunity! - breathe deeply)

What makes Forks a good place for vampires? Rain, overcast days and plenty of fog. It keeps the vampires obscured.
