Posted - 05/26/2008 : 18:22:46 Thanks for all these suggestions. I still haven't submitted one as the stately home needs to have a specific feature, one that is common in stately homes but not likely to be mentioned in any summaries. I'll eventually pin one down! |

Yes! I totally forgot that one.
(Too bad Gone with the Wind wasn't a comedy - you can't get more stately than Tara!)

Genericism probably won't be a problem. It can be any old comedy, but not any old stately home. (But if there are too many then I'll just make it an accolade instead.) Thanks for the suggestions.
Did anyone mention It's A Wonderful Live? While there aren't much in the way of lawns, the home certainly is stately.

The challenge is can you come up with a review that doesn't come off as generic - this list took about 2 minutes to compose. |

Certainly any of the Jane Austin adaptations have stately homes and there's no small amount of comedy in most of them.

Posted - 02/16/2008 : 04:25:02 Thanks for the further suggestions. Yes, anything that is at least theoretically funny would be fine. I'll see if I can see some stills of that one. |

Branagh's Much Ado about Nothing is set in a stately manor with lawns and gardens.

And, of course, there's a stately home of sorts in The Importance of Being Earnest.

Posted - 02/13/2008 : 18:56:56 I don't think Gosford Park would do, but I'll check out the others. I have a specific requirement that I don't want to give away as it would spoil the review. Thanks. |
