Objective: Review these early documentary shorts featuring Admiral Dewey. George Dewey had a long and distinguished career in the US Navy. He was born on 26 December 1837 in Montpelier, Vermont. During the Civil War he served with Admiral Farragut during the Battle of New Orleans and as part of the Atlantic blockade. These short documentaries were made in 1899 and tell the story of Dewey's return to the USA via Gibralta after helping to defeat the Spanish Navy in the Far East.
