Again, not exactly a hero, but Michael Clayton doesn't have time to read his son's book/stay at his dad's birthday party. He's presumably divorced for a similar reason.
I'm looking for examples of the classic cliche where no matter how important the hero's job is - he could hold the fate of the entire universe in his hands - the only thing his significant other seems to care about is that he never has enough time for her and the kids.
Suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks!
I'm not totally sure, but I do think that Unbreakable might fit your bill.
His marriage actually got better once he became a hero, so it doesn't apply.
