The Erroll Flynn/David Niven answer is close, but no cigar. You're in the right time frame. The two actors I'm thinking of made their first film together in the 1930s. They're not generally thought of in the same sentence, and are usually thought of as having worked in very different genres. I won't tell you which studio they were contracted to, but it's not RKO or Warner Bros.

Ah, then how's about Cary Grant and Randolph Scott?

Dunno the house-name, though. Research tell me it was called Bachelor Hall.

It's hard to imagine The Adventures of Robin Hood starring anyone but Errol Flynn, but it almost got made a year earlier with an actor you'd never expect to see prancing through Sherwood Forest. In fact this actor never pranced anywhere; when he moved, it was with great menace and a barely contained rage, which is what most of us remember him for, in spite of the fact that at heart he was a song and dance man who yearned to entertain audiences, not frighten them. Who is it?

Well, I thought I'd given a lot away in the clue but then no one responded. Anyway, correct....your turn.

He was very close to a Champion.
He had quite a harmonic relationship with Santa and Rudolph.
He favored the American over the National, and his office proved it.
He loved Angels.
He was a hot property for Republic, Columbia, CBS radio, on TV and for Dell Comics. Later he made millions in hot properties in a real estate business.
His first name was Orvon.

What was his nickname and who was his most well-known rival?

The Singing Cowboy,Gene Autry, who rode Champion the Wonder Horse...His rival, I assume, is Roy Rogers, who rode Trigger...and also rode Dale Evans

CORRECT ... AGAIN!!!

This is turning into a two horse race!!!

I think I'll temporarily retire from the rodeo and let someone else ride ... you can nominate the next trivia maven with my blessing.
