Dutch

I wasn't impressed with Black Book, I thought it was very over rated

Most of the 'great' dutch alternatives are probably unfortunately dated now, but you could do worse than check out any of the following:

De Aanslag
Turks Fruit
De Tweeling

My personal pick of the bunch is Turks Fruit, but it is probably also the most dated of the three.

Turks Fruit also has the novelty-factor of a young Rutger Hauer going 'full frontal' - one aspect of Dutch films is that they almost always contain plenty of very unnecessary nudity, with a remarkably frequent occurrence of lesbian activity, so even a crappy film is usually bearable

Steer clear of Soldaat van Oranje, though, even more overrated than Black Book

Spanish

As a personal preference, I would have chosen Pan's Labyrinth over Volver for Spanish, although I think it would be a far-from-unanimous choice

Chinese/Mandarin

Lots of great options here, I would probably pick Fu Zi (After This Our Exile) as my favourite. I haven't seen your choice though, so can't compare

Mayan/Aramaic

Er, ok then ...

Yep, my Dutch choice so far is on the same basis as the latter languages!

Pan's Labyrinth is good but I definitely prefer Volver.

I don't think I have actually seen many Chinese films, as that one was the only one I could think of other than martial arts ones. Therefore, it probably will change in time. It's not amazing but it is good and very unusual in that it focuses on a very small child (a boy of about three), who does an excellent job.

Thanks for the suggestions. I'll add them to my LoveFilm account (if they have them) for when I restart it.

The Dutch recommendation from Linda, my dutch wife, is Van De Koele Meren Des Doods

She says it was her favourite dutch film when it came out, and although she hasn't seen it in 15 years it is still probably her favourite.

Before you rush out to find it I should probably point out that she was 11 when it came out, and she doesn't have the best taste in films! Still, it is the Dutch recommendation from the Dutch girl

BaftaBabe, this may fit your film-making accolade, depending upon what the parameters are.

Thanks, but in the interests of not-scaring-off achievers I've decided to make all my accolades subject to a statute of limitations. Of course, anyone is free to make their own accolades based on any of mine which comprise films that I've left unadded.

Can anyone please suggest any actors to add to this accolade? Suggestions for its title are also welcome.

Something weird is going on with the computer I'm using. I could see that accolade after I created it, but now when I click on it I get a blank page except for the correct trophy. I also cannot see any of my accolades on my page. Please let me know whether you can see it fine. Thanks.

I've done the F5 thing and that hasn't made any difference. I'll delete all my cookies and try again when I log back in later.

In the meantime, the accolade is about that rare commodity, child actors with successful adult careers. I want to keep it to ones who have had major films in both adulthood and by the time they're a younger teenager at the oldest. So far I have Christian Bale, Jodie Foster and Drew Barrymore.

Kurt Russell, Judy Garland, Elizabeth Taylor, Mickey Rooney... it might be a bit early to include Lindsay Lohan for a successful adult career.

Another accolade I would like suggestions for is this one. I especially need some non-twins. Thanks.

And another is this one. I had thought of some other films but cannot remember them at present.

I have provisionally included Withnail & I, since the name of one of the very main characters is never given on screen, but I'd prefer cases where none of the characters' names or at least none of the main ones' names are given. (Along similar lines I may possibly (but less likely) include Australia.)

I don't mean ones where a character's name is not known by the others and/or they comment on his/her anonymity. I just mean ones where the other characters would know the name but use neither it nor a nickname, without commenting on the fact. (In Australia, the Drover is a borderline case.)

Thanks for the suggestions.

My definition of child is up to younger teens.

I've included Elizabeth Taylor. I've left out Ron Howard (not really a good actor) and Mickey Rooney (annoying). I've also for now left out Kurt Russell (his child acting was virtually entirely on television) and Judy Garland (nothing she did before The Wizard of Oz was really of note). I actually have included Lindsay Lohan, because actors so rarely work continually over the age range that she has; the new Parent Trap was very popular and I really enjoyed A Prairie Home Companion.
