I read the book as a child and don't remember it varying from the film significantly. However, it may be that (i) it did but I have forgotten or (ii) it was not the proper version of the book (which is a grey area anyway), but a version shaped around the film.

I've just lost my Rubber Face trophy with the addition of Ripley's Believe It or Not! (2009) being added to the site.
IMDB lists Jim Carrey as being "in talks" to play Robert Ripley. A film that may be between 18-24 months off release with only vague casting references shouldn't be listed for reviews at this point.

My pending as a trophy holder is Carrey's Ripley? Believe? Not!

Not to mention Gregory's Girl, Madagascar and the Madagascar penguins film, but it doesn't claim to be exhaustive.

Sounds great - thanks, Sal. If I ever finish what I need to get through today, I'll add it in asap.

It's also got a brilliant set of ironic self-cameos.

Any suggestions for this accolade? If I've seen the film, I'll need to agree. If I haven't, I'll go with the consensus.

Or for this one? I know there are quite a lot (e.g. some of the Terminators), but I'm in an Internet cafe and so will fill it out later. The one I have included technically does not fit, but does so in spirit.

I like it!

Here's a few to get you started...

2001: A Space Odyssey
Strange Days
Predator 2

Would Star Wars series count? It seems futuristic, but is, according to it's opening schpeel anyway, set a long time ago. (I'm guessing probably not, since it's not really based in our reality)

Anyway, this site might offer you a few more ideas...

What about Dead Poets Society? Or if that didn't convince you, how about Good Will Hunting?

Escape From New York definitely fits. There are probably hundreds of sci-fi movies from the 50s and 60s that will meet your criteria, because people back then seemed to think we'd be riding around in flying cars by now and they made lots of movies about that.

Star Wars doesn't meet the criteria. Even if you choose to ignore the introduction, how can you say it's in a "future that's already passed" if the movie doesn't say when it takes place?
