Five films, one subject
NB:
Operation Anthropoid, the British and Czech mission to assassinate the high ranking Nazi "the hangman" Reinhard Heydrich, has been filmed several times, and in two current releases.
The earliest version "The Assassination" was made by Czech film-makers and actors, which is interesting because it was Czech attempt. "Operation: Daybreak" in the 70s starred Anthony Andrews. Recent "Anthropoid" stars Jamie Dornan, Cillian Murphy and Detlef Bothe as Heydrich.
"The Silent Village" was made by Humphrey Jennings and a Welsh mining community in direct response to the Nazi's retaliatory obliteration of the Czech village Lidice following the attack on Heydrich. |
