The original "Anchorman" was a guilty pleasure; a geekily quotable piece of frivolity that just seemed to stick. So how do you follow up on that? How could you possibly hope to make, for example, "Animal House 2"?
Well, "Anchorman 2" does it. Rather than rehashing the same situational comedy and ironic juxtapositioning, Anchorman 2 stuns with breathtaking cinematography and a brilliant screenplay. Will Ferrell reprises the role of Ron Burgundy, but this time as a wisened skeptic who lives in a post-apocalyptic world populated by half-man, half-giraffe like animals that live in the tree canopy of what is left of the rain forest.
Almost had you, didn't I? "Two" is nothing more than you saw in "One," and probably is far less quotable. But my daughter and I had a great time laughing. Don't expect it to be brilliant; it isn't. It's just more of the same guilty pleasure. |
