I love fwfr!

Some notelets:

> Up in the frozen north, a giant insect targets the military
> You know how some old-fashioned eateries had those plates with polka dots around the rim?
> In Gus Van Sant's Elephant, two students are delighted as they murder their classmates. What happens to your pupils when your eyes open wide?
> Yep, Emily's dead.
> Will Hay was a popular comedian early in the last century. In this film, he has a double role.

Lemmy in for #917.

Many years ago Tom Courtenay starred in The Loneliness of the Long Distance Runner.

British films

NB:
"Plod" = slang term for a policeman / moving sluggishly or dumbly.
Charles Gray plays the satanist Mocata in "The Devil Rides Out"
Ray Winstone memorably takes out the borstal top dog with a snooker ball in "Scum".
"Welcome to the Punch" involves illegal gun runners.
In "A Bunch of Amateurs" fading US action star Jefferson Steel joins the titular bunch in a British production of King Lear.

Babette's Feast was directed by Gabriel Axel. It is very bleak, with lots of abject poverty; it also obviously features food preparation.

The adults lead a little girl to become very confused about what happened.

Cotty and Candy are bad girls.

Tom Cruise's character has a little nodding doll mascot called Bob.

Side Effects was directed by Scott Z. Burns. Spoiler (not explicit in the review): Rooney Mara seems like a victim of the eponymous symptoms, but it turns out that she has knowingly murdered Channing Tatum
.
