Do as you would be done by. As I have already explained, I think that a personal message is intrusive and inappropriate in this sort of context. This is vastly more the case as I do not remember seeing the person in question in the Fourum, and so contacting them would be as a total stranger. There is no shame involved in a typo being highlighted; it does not imply and judgment of the person who made it.

So smug public humiliation is better?

Odd.

Then they're not very likely to see your post.

I don't think it was smug and it was certainly not humiliation. (As I had already said above, there is no shame in making a typo - everyone does it.)

They're not supposed to. Benj will see it and correct the spelling.

I would say a line like:
"Bambi in this film is (perhaps) a fawn. He isn't a faun."
is unnecessarily gilding the lily, as it loudly points out the mistake, with a smartass correction. I would guess that that reviewer might recognise their error, or not, but the way you put these things almost always comes across as "see? I'm smarter than you."

I understand that that might not be your intention, but it comes across that way very often, and smugness is easily read into it.

To you.

The same could be said for your constant lecturing about this sort of thing.

Go to neutral corners please.

AC please keep PMing.
Salopian please keep posting.

Conan please keep writing bloody reports and stop trying to procrastinate.

My message to me was a failure. I finished reading a book while in the bath - I was only in there for 2.5 hours. Looks like a 4am starting time as penance.

Searching for a 'yawning' smilie which might be appropriate to deal with these posts. Certainly would come in handy. Will keep searching.

I don't know about you guys, but (at least for this week) I can't concentrate on a thing AC is saying: that Buffy-Selma thing's got my full attention!

I'll have to come back next week, after I finish visiting the fourum every few seconds to check out that avatar again.
