Posted - 08/19/2010 : 23:39:29 Here is a thread in which users may post links to accolades that either appear to be mistakenly created, completely out of date (for example, the Harry Potter accolade that only features 3 films), or are generally in need of some maintenance. I am hoping that by listing them in a thread this will result in a concentrated location for benj to refer to when he gets a moment (ha, ha).
I know that many accolades were created in a time and a place, and should be left as is, but many that were created before the current autoupdate option are sadly out of date. And while adjusting the structure of these accolades to include all missed films might remove accolades from trophy cabinets - something that will affect me more than anyone else aside from randall - I think it's in the site's best interests for these accolades to be comprehensive, no?
There are also a huge number of accolade IDs which are empty now - whenever an accolade is deleted the ID stays empty. Could this be adjusted?
I am promoting this thread as a centralised accolade maintenance thread: other relevant threads exist here: http://www.fwfr.com/fourum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=4161 http://www.fwfr.com/fourum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=4535 http://www.fwfr.com/fourum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=3892

I deleted this out of my accolades last year, so it's not in my list anymore. |

work in progress will be about 500 films when complete. I have put explanations and graphics in as it was being built but the system kept losing them etc so I have a simple name and it will stay that way until it is complete.
The globes, the oscars and baftas will be updated and completed in due course.

Absolutely, if Greenaway's as you like it, then of course it's okay. It's your accolade! The biggest issue, as you say, is accolades created before the current system was created, and since you've created many very early accolades (only benj has earlier ones, I believe), a few might have slipped through. If I'm able to start some kind of dialogue on this stuff and get people to have a quick look at their accolades and confirm that, yep, I'm happy with how they are, then I'll be happy. |

Posted - 08/20/2010 : 19:27:49 Hi AC,
thanks for the guilt trip
I have a bunch of accolades that I need to update/ delete and I've avoided dealing with. I set up the Essential Collections way back when I was reliant on the films already on the database and there's a few tweaks needed. Also some of the auto-adds accolades need cleaning up.
.... and I need to just delete some frankly meaningless accolades. My personal bugbear are the accolades with only one film in them. What the heck's the point of them. Still, I suppose that's the Accolade owner's thing, not mine.
Just checked the Peter Greenaway Accolade you mentioned and it's an Auto Add, so I'm not sure what's missing. It's set up for the work of Greenaway as a Director, that the problem? In whch case I need to edit the description of the accolade rather than the content. Let me know
cheers. |

Kudos for getting stuck into this AC. It can be frustrating seeing some very out of date accolades and wondering whether it's worth treading on other people's toes in starting a new one... hopefully this might produce some updates and fixes.
Well ... yeah, I suppose. But, for example, I try to keep my accs complete on making them. In other words, I don't want them updated. I want the achievers to keep them in their trophy cabinets. This is partly because I award bonus votes to anyone who completes one of my accs and I only want to award those one time! I mean ... sheezsh!
So - I hope before anyone starts playing around with my accs they ask me first. And I hope they won't be too offended if I say no.
You will, of course, notice that none of your accolades are listed above. Nor are the many accolades that I came across that say things like 'here are the best 20 Clint Eastwood films' or 'here are my favourite flicks' or 'this is the three films in which Jennifer Connelly stands at the end of a pier' (a personal favourite!). Anything that was clearly consciously set are not in question here. The ones which must be updated, however, are for the most part created by lapsed members, prior to the auto-update feature, and nearly always say things like 'Review BOTH Harry Potter films!'. These look sloppy and surely no one would object to those either being updated or removed and replaced with new ones that could be moderated by an active member?
I'm not advocating that benj tinker with people's well thought-out accolades, I just am suggesting that the sloppy ones be brought into line. |

Yeah, this happens to me often, particularly when updating a really big accolade. Can be frustrating.
No, I didn't go through every accolade: I had a couple of hours spare last night while my son struggled to settle so I scrolled through a (fairly large) selection, mostly looking for the 'no name no title' ones that I've come across before. The incomplete ones are probably more work than they're worth for fixing up, but I listed them to start a conversation again; none of my discoveries were personal, I promise, I just worked through chronologically (and then reverse chronologically once I got bored) and posted what I found. There's still around 3,000 accolade IDs I didn't get to. |

Posted - 08/20/2010 : 04:04:40 Okay, that's a start. If anyone else comes across any more, post them here! The incomplete ones aren't a huge issue I guess, but it looks bad to new users when they see a James Cameron Accolade that doesn't feature Avatar! What's more pressing are the ones that aren't really anything at all. |
