Normally, this is according to the number of films each actor is listed against. However, reimporting the film now reorders them. I'm not sure of the basis for the new order, but actors with no other films are spread out in the list, so it's definitely not by number of films any more.

Fair enough, although it's going to mean some insane orders like this.

I prefer it this way.

I'm not actually that keen on the new ordering, for the following reasons:

(i) A significant minority of film credits are ordered alphabetically (which I believe is reflected on the I.M.D.B.). Also, a large proportion of films have rest of cast listed alphabetically.
(ii) I quite enjoyed seeing the previous numerical ordering, since sometimes it was interesting to unexpectedly see who had more credits than whom. I found it quite sweet that Bess Flowers was at the top of all of her films, for example.
(iii) Ordering in line with film credits makes more sense for the I.M.D.B., since character names are listed. It's not really quite the same seeing which actors are probably the unspecified main characters.
(iv) The previous ordering only became out of date when people were added to the I.M.D.B. page. The new one will also become out of date if the order there is amended (which is pretty common, especially for films added here before release -- although I suppose those will tend to also have cast added anyway).

However, I don't feel strongly about it so if Benj prefers it this way then that is fine.

Well I was looking forward to a couple of months of heavy cast list fixing... but, if you insist....

Yep- I made this change a while back and, as you noted, it'll take some time to reimport the lot. I'm hoping to automate the process so don't worry about doing this manually (unless you REALLY really want to ).

No, you're right, I just checked by reimporting "My Darling Clementine" - the names are reordered according to the ordering of IMDB - usually top billed first so Henry Fonda is now first in the list of that film (as he should be). This is far better considering a major star cameoing for a few seconds in a smaller film doesn't top the list as if they are the star as they used to. It just means we have to reimport as we go, which might take a while...
