Posted - 03/01/2009 : 00:01:23 It was on tv tonight. I thought - I'll just watch the opening again. Well, I must have seen the film at least five times, but hadn't for a good few years.
And, damn but it sucked me in again. Again!
Okay, there's some hokey dokey stuff. But it just grabs you and won't let go.
Goddammit, that's one fine film.
Tomorrow is Gran Torino.

I get this with such movies as Jaws, Arsenic and Old lace, All About Eve, 12 angry men (fonda), 12 monkeys, ed wood and Mississippi Burning to name but a few.
Shawshank is pretty damn good too.
I'm a sucker for Some Like it Hot. They put it on a whole lot on TCM and MGM and I can never resist it when I see its on.
(I think it truly is about time I take it off my Amazon wish list and put it into my shopping cart for my next order!)

Posted - 03/04/2009 : 06:34:01 I can take it or leave it. I know this is the archetypal example and thus doesn't deserve the blame, but these days I don't get much from Freeman playing yet another poor old wise man. |

Posted - 03/03/2009 : 20:13:59 I have a long list of movies like that, of which SHAWSHANK is one. Good, bad, I just want to keep watching until the flesh's weakness beats the spirit's willingness! |

Posted - 03/01/2009 : 19:13:26 I don't find it surprising about Shawshank.
It's briliantly crafted, very well acted, completely predictable, entirely synthetic and utterly manipulative.
A highly addictive and ultimately worthless experience.
When's it on next?

Posted - 03/01/2009 : 13:33:24 The surprising ones are the films that you really don't like that much that you end up watching over when they pop up on the TV. |

Yes, so it will... I've found many movies that do this to me.

I think this is one of the finer films out there. |
