Posted - 10/22/2013 : 15:31:23 Triple-credited Marcus Markou sure makes a personal statement as director/writer/and actor with his feature-length debut. It won't blow the world apart, but then its weapons aren't mechanical. They include charm, humour, some wit, some slapstick, some arc of character revelation, some subtlety, some lateral looks at the strivings and yearnings of a dysfunctional family embedded in a dysfunctional life, and a new twist on a riches-to-rags story.
Are your cockles warm yet?
They probably will be if you catch this Anglo/Greek tale. It's not embued with the literary lush of Zorba, nor the bombast of Fat Greek Wedding. But it settles satisfyingly into its niche.
