Posted - 08/24/2013 : 11:08:53 The lean, taut prose of Richard Stark was a thing of wonder. With almost no descriptive passages he conjured characters from their barbed exchanges. Almost always these characters would be near the edge of society, looking for a break. Most of them are life's victims except Parker.
Parker is one of the seminal characters of american crime fiction. Essentially a force of nature, he knows what he wants and goes out and gets it. In a peculiar way he has a code. Dont get in his way and everything is jake. If you do, then prepare fr the worst. He is a man's man, letting no woman cloud his outlook. Capable of strong loyalty he is, nonetheless a lone wolf.
Parker has been on screen in a number of guises ( and never previously with the name ). Most effectively he was portrayed by Lee Marvin in Point Blank. As casting goes, Lee Marvin brought the necessary driven quality of a hard man who knows what he wants. Parker is an american icon and for his first eponymous film you need an iconic american actor. Or at least one that can appear american ( The British are getting better at this with "The Wire" and "Band of Brothers" )
So who do they cast?
Wide-Boy Cockney Jason Statham.
