Take my advice - stay for the end credits. If nothing else they promise two things and deliver on both. More Minions doing adorable miniony things - of which there's never enuf imho! Plus, if you're at the 3D version - the sweetest use of 3D I've yet seen. Anywhere.

OK Minion fans - back to the film. I wish I could say I loved it. I wish I could say it topped DM1. I wish I could say something, anything about Al Pacino, whose name still appears in the cast list, though it's Ben Bratt doing the voice of the villain.

But I can't.

Oh, don't get me wrong, I still LOVE, LURVE, LOVE minions. Not as much, I admit, as WALL-E, but still ...

But, even though Ken Daurio and Cinco Paul wrote the scripts of both DM1 & 2, this follow-up feels like it's been vetted by the Tea Party. In DM1 we witnessed the [cheesy, but nice] transformation of a very bad Gru into a slightly grumpy but caring kinda guy. Responsibility in loco parentis helped bigtime. Kids were safely scared, and happily ever after was propelled by some terrific laffs.

DM2 has no scary villains. We're told there are villains, but maybe there are and maybe there aren't. And Gru, as reluctantly as Brad Pitt in WWZ [see review elsewhere], is finally convinced to help The Anti-Villain League nobble the bad guys - if anyone can actually find them.

So begins a fairly story-less tale, enlivened by some decent though not remarkable characters, whom you never really get to care about. You don't even get any residual caring-about the characters from DM1. Which is not to say the voice work of the actors is anything less than terrific. Kristen Wiig in particular proves she can evoke just as complex and likeable a lady as her live comic creations.

But it's not enough. Yada-yada villains, yada-yada dad stuff, yada-yada love conquers all. Violins. Sunset. Nighty-night.

Nope - not for me. Minions. I want more minions.
