Posted - 05/26/2013 : 12:11:07 That is not helpful Salopian.
Then, and now: "It is exactly this kind of nit-picking which drives people away from contributing at all..." |

Posted - 05/26/2013 : 00:03:19 It looks from the general feeling of the replies so far indicates that unless Randall is dead against it there's an inclination to return to the old times. Getting Chocolate Lady back more regularly would be a good enough reason for me given that the core six of us from recent months play regardless of the start time. Any opinions to the contrary? |

Posted - 05/25/2013 : 16:02:37 I believe the time change was because it was felt that those in the US were at a slight disadvantage for starting the thread. As I say, I've never minded. I also operate a "pop-in when I have a minute" schedule, so I never have to wait till the last minute to vote. But hey - that's just me ... I think this is the price we pay for being so popular across continents!

Yes... I miss both the starting time and the closing time this way. There's something about the morning start and end that seems more... accessible for me. |

Posted - 05/24/2013 : 22:36:52 Looking back to when we changed the time I think the switch helped Randall out by the looks of things - he was definitely for it. Any thoughts Randall? If it meant we could get some more regular players back in the game I think it's worth considering.
p.s. Five votes apiece to all the entrants I missed this round. |

The difference for me isn't the start time, as you say anyone can post whenever they want within the time period, it's the end time I'm having issues with as I tend to wait until near the end of the round to do my voting so I don't miss any latecomers, and also don't have to vote more than once per round.
Feel free to vote earlier and not visit my page. I enter for old times' sake, and don't mind if I get fewer votes.
I couldn't intentionally do that, it would conflict directly with my sense of right and wrong! |

Posted - 05/24/2013 : 02:25:10 Thanks Lemmy, that's interesting. Generally, so far, it's either/or or preferred return to the old timings. I'm definitely in that camp.

I don't mind either way. But honestly why would it make any difference? There's no pressure to be first to post. Each FYCTH is up for 3-4 days. The time change hasn't altered that.

Invariably that means I'm voting in the hours leading up to 6pm UK time when I'm often out and not thinking about it.

I think all 4UM activity has dwindled. Case in point - the haiku thread. Even Dis or Dat.
Maybe benj can tell us whether the actual submissions have also fallen off, stayed the same, even increased?
Yes, sort of, but there are plenty of fourum users who are still using the site but rarely this part. Are they still reviewing? I would definitely be interested to know what the general figures for registered users and submissions are and how they have changed in recent years.
Salopian, you're right that there has been a steady decline since then. It's a shame... the law of entropy in action I guess...
Also interested to hear Randall and Larry's thoughts, as well as our semi regular FYCers. |

Posted - 05/24/2013 : 01:48:00 I believe that Chocky mentioned a while back that the new start time was not good for her.
Personally, I preferred the former and would welcome it back. |

Posted - 05/23/2013 : 23:40:41 The site's heyday was 2004--2005. It has been in steady decline as a whole, and in the Fourum in particular, since then. I just keep going in memory of those halcyon days. I can't remember why someone pushed for the change of time, but I said then that I'd rather keep the old one. However, I can live with either. |

...bollocks. Missed the deadline again. These new hours don't suit me at all, it's becoming clear.
Serious question: has the time change improved or diminished the practicality of FYC for us? I can't help but notice our regular numbers are dwindling horribly. I'm getting used to expecting to see the five of you (Randall, Lemmy, Larry, Baffy and Salopian) and more than that has only become a bonus. Any thoughts on whether the start and finish time might have made a difference to our absent friends or am I just clutching at straws?

If they, too, have decreased, perhaps there's some natural progression of how long people are willing to devote to something/anything.
Other thoughts most welcome, and thanks, Dom, for raising the issue.
