I LOVED Scared Stiff, even from WAY WAY back when I first saw it on Frances Farmer Presents in about 1963 (when I was just a year old?? - HA!). |

A Game of Death is a poor remake of the fine 1932 The Most Dangerous Game.

3D didn't seem to help the latest Dredd at the box office. |

Posted - 01/10/2013 : 21:49:41 Oh, and have I said it long enough and loud enough yet? JOHN HAWKES GOT ROBBED!!!
So here are my notes: a) Dark Shadows: An imprisoned vampire, Barnabas Collins, is set free and returns to his ancestral home, where his dysfunctional descendants are in need of his protection. Stars my personal actor hero, Johnny Depp, who endeavors to get the vampire curse removed. Oh, and it works. b) Glory: Robert Gould Shaw (Matthew Broderick) leads the US Civil War's first all-black volunteer company, fighting prejudices of both his own Union army and the Confederates. Among others, it stars Morgan Freeman, Cary Elwes and Denzel Washington, who won his first Academy Award for his role. Includes a memorable scene wherein Washington is discovered AWOL and is horse whipped for desertion. As he stands gripping the wagon wheel, the whip cuts his back and a single tear trickles down his cheek. Gripping stuff! c) Midnight Cowboy: A naive male prostitute (Jon Voight) and his sickly friend (Dustin Hoffman) struggle to survive on the streets of New York City. The pair cross the street and are nearly hit by a taxi, upon which Hoffman hits the hood of the car and announces I'm walkin here! I'm walkin here!! d) Now Voyager: Boston spinster (Bette Davis) blossoms under therapy and finds impossible romance. At the end, Paul Heinreid suggests that he and Davis could still see one another and she replies, saying Oh Jerry, don't let's ask for the moon. We have the stars. e) Straw Dogs:Thin remake of 1971 Sam Peckinpaugh film. Sumner (James Marsden) finally fires local construction group for problems arising from their job repairing the barn. That leads to a score of worsening, vicious behavior. |
