Seeking that sort of validation is just creepy. And I don't mean creepy as in Skeletor's-cackling-in-the-credits-of-the-old-He-Man-cartoon creepy, but creepy as in "It-puts-the-lotion-on-its-skin-or-else-it-gets-the-hose-again" creepy.

Since you said that without any smileys, I find that creepy. Personally, I wouldn't care if the number-of-films-added stat were deleted, but while it is here, it may as well function correctly.

Using smilies is just lazy. Since I don't live in ancient Egypt, I don't see the reason why I should use arbitrary pictograms to get my point across.

Words ameliorating your point would have been fine too. Since you neither did that nor used smileys, I was just pointing out that your post was rather severe and unreasonable.

Of course, it's severe. All writing is. As Joan Didion once wrote, "Writing is the act of saying I, of imposing oneself upon other people, of saying listen to me, see it my way, change your mind. It's an aggressive, even a hostile act."

Besides, we really should not bring reason into the equation when talking about internet drama, now, should we?

It may not be for validation Ali. There are some competitive folk on the site who like to achieve in different areas - total reviews, votes, accolades etc. Some may be seeking the glory of adding films to the site.
PS Although smilies are often inane they can be useful for judging the writer's tone and to head off possible misunderstandings.

Well, blessed are the film-adders.

But they remove all doubt.

Anyhoo...

Actually there were, apparently, two Man in the Iron Mask movies put out that year. Take a look at the casts - they're different in the two films. So these aren't two entries for one film at all.

Sorry, I can be such a dunce with the postings sometimes.
In response to the posting above....

I'm new to the site.

I have to admit I got a small frisson of excitement when I realised that the fwfers were responsible for building up the film base, and that Aussie films (that didn't make it internationally) don't feature very highly (please, no sarcastic comments about the Australian film industry).

Theeeeen, when I discovered the stats page and that films added by us could be statified (sorry, like making up new words) I liked that even better. Not that it I'm going to put someone down a hole before skinning them alive to make a dress if the stats add up wrongly - but I enjoy the challenge of both identifying films that aren't in the databse, and trying to get the review for it accepted (I'm still learning how to do the last one well).

So there
